His cynicism comment is with me all the time. Oddly enough, besides a few odd blogs that went ahead to define the word after he said it, I haven't found much discussion of the implications of what he said.
It's funny. Conan's an extremely nice person by all accounts, and yet I associate his fan base with people who love Seinfeld (and Leno's with Friends fans). So it was a little unexpected to hear, and even powerful, maybe.
His cynicism comment made his last episode. He exploded his ratings by mocking NBC, and I think he really made his last show pretty well.
First of all, Neil Young thanked him for everything he's done for new music. I think we owe Conan on this front because some of us wouldn't have known about Eagles of Death Metal or Death From Above 1979 if it weren't for the fact that Conan didn't book based on record sales.
Secondly, his praise for NBC and condemnation for cynicism pretty much guarantees that his irony doesn't give way to cynicism. I'm happy about that. Hooray irony and fuck cynicism.

Except here -- just a mention.

That comment has stuck with me, too. It might be the single most optimistic thing I've heard in 2010.

I agree. I've been thinking about the cynicism comment a lot as well...usually at least once a day.
